Painting and masking the bodywork for the Mazda's livery is getting along - I have some green on the car and am masking for more green and some of the silver. In the pictures, you can see the tape lines I have set for (most of) the masking. The trick here is that sometimes the … Continue reading [Episode 29] Painting: green etc
[Episode 28] Orange base colour takes months
I have been working on the fluro orange base colour of the bodywork for some time, maybe six months. Yes, it took a long time to paint, refine all the surface errors, repaint, repair, etc. The rear clam was painted but came out too dark, so I stripped it back to bare plastic and started … Continue reading [Episode 28] Orange base colour takes months
[Episode 27] The toughest pieces in this build
For me, the vacuum-formed window pieces are the most challenging parts in this build. After runing two sets of windows, I have cut the window 'glass' to size and painted the window frits. The challenges are that (i) the soft plastic used for the vacuum-formed parts is very easy to scratch, and very tough to … Continue reading [Episode 27] The toughest pieces in this build
[Episode 26 7/8]
Hopefully, possibly, maybe - the final test fit with all the body parts primed, ready for colour. 'All' small defects have been fixed, including some fit issues with between the rear clam and the airbox. I will probably find many more defects during the painting, but for now, here it is:

[Episode 25 1/2] A little extra magic
A quick update to the LED lighting work: the electronics that will be installed into the display base have been assembled onto their mounting plate and wired up. Here are a couple of photos: Firstly, a mounting board to hold all the components. This was designed in Tinkercad and then 3D printed. And the completed … Continue reading [Episode 25 1/2] A little extra magic
[Episode 25] Bringing the magic of LED lighting
The Mazda will be lit up using LED lighting, similar to the lighting in the Ferrari 250 GTO. The headlights, indicators, tail/brake lights, rain light and rooftop warning light will all work. I will put a row of switches on the display base so that spectators can play with the lights. In this post are … Continue reading [Episode 25] Bringing the magic of LED lighting
[Episode 24] Fuel Cell
Just the one photo of the various parts of the fuel cell with a bunch of piping and wiring on it. There will be more, but they need to wait until the cell is fit onto the body, as I need to access a fixing screw. Most of these lines are additional to the Model … Continue reading [Episode 24] Fuel Cell
